5 Things That Will Get You There Safer Than Ever Before

First of all, I am making no money from this blog, and, in no way, am I trying to "cash in" on the misfortunes of others; rather, the aim of this post is to provide an idea for a goal, that I believe, we should all have. That goal is to be better, to be a better human being.

In light of the tragedy in Mesa County two days ago, and in support of those all around the world who have lost someone you love, may I offer a piece of free advice? We cannot bring back our loved ones, but we can honor them daily, by moving forward in our own lives, striving to eliminate whatever caused them to lose theirs. And today, I don't just have a piece of advice, but I actually have 5 Things That Will Get You There Safer Than Ever Before!

These five things I will give you for FREE! That's right, these five things won't cost you a dime, but they will cost something else, they’ll cost you some TIME.

Which, TIME to me, is more valuable than money, so if you would like to increase your wealth, not by money, but by the day, then read very closely, these words I’m about to say.

*Also, I apologize in advance for the formatting of this post. It always looks different on a phone than a computer, and try as I have, I can't it right on this post, so check it out on your desktop or laptop for the full effect.

5 Things That Will Get You There Safer Than Ever Before

I could make this blog post say, 10 Things, or 12 Things That Will Get You There Safer Than Ever Before, but all of those extra things could easily fall into one category, which just happens to be number one on my list of advice: Use Common Sense! I’ve listed just a few things that you can do, for free, that will make you safer as you travel.

1. Use Common Sense!

  • Buckle-up!

  • Don’t drink and drive!

  • Slow down in residential areas

  • Slow down in commercial areas, including parking lots

  • Obey the traffic laws

  • Like using your turn indicators (a.k.a. blinkers)

2. Vehicle Maintenance

To keep you, your passengers, and all the drivers around you safe, keep up with your vehicle maintenance, including cleaning windows and mirrors, to give yourself the best view of the road and your surroundings. Clean windows and mirrors will give you a better chance of seeing something that might be a hazard, and having clear vision just might save your life!

3. Defensive Driving

Driving defensive doesn’t mean driving like grandma; it means, driving with an awareness of the other drivers on the road with you, and driving with the assumption that none of those other drivers are paying any attention to you, let alone, attention to the road in front of them. Always prepare for and expect the worst-case scenario, and that will put your brain on alert, and more safely you’ll go.

4. Pay Attention!

That brings us to number 4 of the 5 Things That Will Get You There Safer Than Ever Before, and that is to Pay Attention! When you’re driving a vehicle, there is only ONE thing you should be doing, and that is—driving that vehicle. Not eating an orange, not texting your wife, not doing your make-up, come on, this is your life! Unlike what it says, you don’t have to pay, and that extra look left, well, it just might save the day!

5. Pray!

I won’t get all religious on you, I’ll let you decide. But when I look back on my life, and all those times I could’ve died, it helps me realize, that there is something greater than me, something greater inside.

And gosh darn* it, slow the $*@# down!

Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the families that lost loved ones in this senseless, avoidable tragedy. May you have peace in your time of grief.
