Houdjinni in Thief of Souls
A Deviants III™ Story

Three wishes. No tricks. No catch.
At least, that's what you want to believe.
For more than two thousand years, a tarnished brass lamp has passed through kingdoms, museums, private collections, evidence lockers, and yard sales. Every owner eventually discovers the same strange truth:
The lamp is empty.
Unfortunately, Houdjinni isn't.
When Professor Samuel Wexler purchases the mysterious relic for forty-three dollars, he expects an interesting artifact. Instead, he wakes at 2:13 in the morning to find an enormous, smoke-shrouded stranger standing beside his bed.

His name is Houdjinni.
And forget everything you've heard about genies.
He doesn't need you to rub the lamp. He isn't trapped inside it. He can leave whenever he wants.

Houdjinni is funny, intelligent, generous—and impossibly charming. Soon Samuel is drinking bourbon with him, trading stories and forgetting there was ever anything to fear. Then come the words mankind has dreamed of hearing for centuries:
“You have three wishes.”
Ten million dollars? Granted.
A second chance with Samuel's estranged daughter? Done.
For the first time in years, Samuel has everything he ever wanted. Maybe the legends were wrong. Maybe Houdjinni isn't evil at all.
Houdjinni finds that idea particularly amusing.
Because this genie doesn't twist wishes.
He twists people.
And when a friendly mountain hike turns into a fascinating conversation about gravity, Samuel learns far too late that Houdjinni doesn't need magic to destroy a man.
Sometimes all he needs...
is a really convincing argument.
